Joni Schneider is a fifth year doctoral candidate. She received her bachelors in Applied Mathematics with a minor in Biology from Texas State University in 2008. She then stayed at Texas State to complete her masters in pure mathematics and graduated in 2012. During her masters, she wrote a thesis on Extremal Cayley Digraphs and published a paper on this topic with her advisor and a fellow graduate student. Joni is now working on her dissertation, which studies mathematical identity of undergraduate students who participate in the weekly seminar, Talk Math 2 Me. Joni started Talk Math 2 Me in the fall of 2012 for students to have an opportunity to practice speaking about and presenting mathematics in a less formal environment. In the first semester, the average weekly attendance was 9, and last semester the average attendance was 92. This substantial increase led Joni to study why there has been more engagement by undergraduates and how students view themselves within the mathematical community after participating in Talk Math 2 Me.
