Major with Teaching Certification

The Department of Mathematics offers the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree. The major in mathematics requires 17 credit hours in core courses and 15 additional credit hours which vary with the student's program.

Bachelor of Science: Major in mathematics (128-132 semester hours)

    Degree requirements:
  1. One of the two plans below.
  2. General Studies requirements (See general studies in the TXSTATE catalog).
  3. Four hours in a scientific programming language. Computer Science 1428.
  4. A fourth semester of English (English 3303).
  5. One year of modern language (1410 and 1420). This requirement is waved if the student has two years of the same foreign language in high school.
  6. Advanced Mathematics electives consisting of courses in the 3000-4000 level.

Bachelor of Arts: Major in mathematics (128-133 semester hours)

    Degree requirements:
  1. One of the two plans below.
  2. General Studies requirements (See general studies in the TXSTATE catalog).
  3. Four hours in a scientific programming language. Computer Science 1428 is recommended.
  4. A fourth semester of English Literature.
  5. Modern language 2310 and 2320.
  6. Advanced Math electives consisting of courses in the 3000-4000 level.
BA, BS with teaching certification. This plan consists of the courses Math 2471, 2472, 3305, 3315, 3330, 3377, 3380, 4304, 4307, 4311. In addition, this plan includes Reading 3323, Curriculum and Instruction 3310, 3325, 4332, 4343, and Education 4681.
